PopUp Around NYC with Meagan Brauer!

Visiting the city for the holidays, or off of school and just hoping to get to know your hood better? NYC teen Meagan Brauer has you covered! This 18-year-old Hunter College sophomore recently launched the videoblog site PopUp New York out of a desire to share her love for major attractions and overlooked little cool places around the five boroughs with viewers. A Manhattan transplant (she grew up on Staten Island), Meagan knows that even native New Yorkers don't know everything there is to know about their city. "There's so much hidden stuff out there," she says. "If I have a couple hours off from class I can just walk around and I'm always occupied and entertained!" With a little help from dad Bruce (a native of Queens) and mom Jeanne-Marie (another Staten Islander), Meagan picks at least three destinations per month to feature. Then Friday afternoons, she and her production crew of seven (including SVA film studies alum big brother Erik as head cameraman) pile into a van with all of their equipment to go film on location. "We're like a little clown car!" she says. Counting the Motorcycle Safety School in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and the Alice Austen House, "a quiet little museum on Staten Island that's really pretty and peaceful," as among her favorite segments she's done, Meagan's game for about anything so long as it's family friendly, accessible by MTA, easy on the wallet -- and lots of fun! Follow Meagan on Twitter (and even send her a tip!) to see where this intrepid pentaborough blogger is popping up next.
