PurseBlog

PurseBlogWhen PurseBlog's Vladimir Dusil and Meaghan Mahoney decided to start their own blog in 2005, it was a little out of the ordinary. After all, this was before bloggers sat front row at shows, before Bryanboy inspired Marc, and way before Tavi was fashion royalty. Yet the duo took a leap of faith and launched the now uber-successful PurseBlog.com.

"When I started the blog, I had two handbags," recalls Mahoney, who has been documenting her obsession with purses for five years now. "Ever since I was a teenager, I would always go to my parents and beg for a new bag."

This fascination with purses has made her quite an authority, even though her approach is quite simple. At first, Meaghan would research a bag, look it up online, and analyze it from the images. Sometimes, she would peruse her local department stores and try the bag on, playing with the texture or feeling the quality. But now that the blogging world has taken off, there's less department store trips for PurseBlog.

"Designers will send us bags, or we'll go to their showrooms to see the collection. That gives us the opportunity to look at it here, close-up. That way, I can try it on, see how it fits, or where it hangs, which is so important to me," she said. She added that with all of her experience also comes a great deal of learning: "If you know the designer well, you eventually get a better idea of what the bag will look like in person."
